Title: 21st Century Pedagogy and Habits of Mind

Overview: This workshop guides participants to examine the need for 21st century competencies, identify a range of habits of mind (learning dispositions), and consider tools for the use of Costa’s 16 Habits of Mind within the classroom. Participants will understand that in order for students to navigate an increasingly complex world they will require strong literacy and numeracy knowledge, content knowledge and technical skills as well as 21st century competencies such as problem solving, critical thinking, digital literacy, collaboration, resilience and adaptability.  Participants will unpack the 16 habits and learn how to teach and assess these within the classroom. Participants will learn how to introduce and sustain the habits of mind through the development of rich tasks for all. This will lead to students becoming confident and creative individuals who are future leaders and metacognitive thinkers.
